LUNY was once a downtown LUG in NYC and the old LUNY site is still available at Ruth’s site. Back then, it was Linux Users of New York. Unfortunately the Linux Users of New York wasn’t sustainable.

From some point after LUNY went defunct in 2001 until 2011, this site was a billboard for local user groups, as the Linux Usergroups of New York.

Today, LUNY hosts events about the tech and people who Light Up New York, with an emphasis on Free and Open technologies. You may with to subscribe to The LUNY Announcements List and The LUNY Discussion List. If you have an announcement you’d like sent to the LUNY Announcements List, you can send it to info@luny.org .

There once was a mailing list for technical discussion and events that had been up almost continuously since about 1999. The operation of this list was the highest priority of its maintainers, and it remained available to keep its community informed even through terrorist attacks and natural disasters. And then the list infrastructure succumbed to neglect, leaving its community without a place to talk.

Through luck and effort, this community has been reconstituted. Go here, to subscribe to talk.
